52 Small Changes - Week 2

Last weeks water challenge? Eh, I could have done a little better but it feels good to have it on the checklist in my face from here on out! A nice constant reminder. This week's challenge is going to be a lot easier for me.

This week? Is about getting enough sleep. 7-8 hours minimum. Here is this weeks info from the Hood:

52 Small Changes talks about optimizing your sleep environment. Like keeping your bedroom dark and isolated from noise, and using nice linens. Did you know that temperature and humidity also play a role in good sleep? I know I prefer it cold (me too!!!) in my room at night. If it's too hot, I can't sleep, and it's proven that being too hot or cold can interrupt REM sleep.

Some other things you might be interested in-

-exercising too close to bedtime can keep you from being able to relax
-having a bedtime ritual isn't just for kids, it works for us too
-avoid substance that stimulate the brain late in the day, ie caffeine
limit alcohol - you might pass out, but it disrupts your sleep patterns
-don't smoke
-don't eat in the two hours prior to bedtime
-and try not to drink water in the hours leading up to bedtime."

It feels darn good to look at a challenge and know you've already hit this one square in the nose. I have, for a few months now, been working very hard to get at least 8 hours of sleep. There are plenty of days where I get only around 7 but that's the least I ever aim for. This week, I need to work hard at helping Dan get the minimum of 7. He gets up about two hours before I do during the week. What sucks is that I often keep him up as late as me.

So... Time to get him sleeping earlier so we are both healthy. I kind of tried the water challenge on him last week but I think he mostly ignored me. He claims he drinks the recommended 64oz. But from what I can tell from his coffee breath after work, he's taking in more coffee than water. :)

So what do your night's sleeps look like? Do you get the bare minimum? Or less!? Or are you lucky to get ore than 8?
